Q: We would like to find an inexpensive caravan site and require only hook-up, water tap & disposal point. Anything else would be a bonus but price is all important. We would prefer the Dover ferry as very travel sick on boats and it's the cheapest! What are the best stopping places en route to the south? We would go for quiet and beautiful rather than tourist attractions & night life. Advice from personal experience would be much appreciated.

A: Some as above, but do not count on the weather being hot! The last 2 winters have been unusually cold in the South of France with heating required most evenings between November and March, Normally the only cold time is the last 2 weeks of January and the first 2 weeks of February. There is a quiet sheltered site at Alet-les-Bains but the shade keeps out the sun and it can be cold even during the day. There is another quite wonderful sit close to the old city in Carcassonne called Camping de la Citie. It has beautiful country side around and you are close to the beautiful medieval City of Carcassone. Restaurants etc re within a 15 minute walk. carcassonne-tourisme.com.
